It’s official: The cherry blossoms have peaked—meaning that 70 percent of the Yoshino trees at the Tidal Basin are in full bloom, the National Park Service said today.

Peak bloom can last from 4-10 days. Just as weather conditions caused a change in the forecasted peak time this year, the weather can also make a difference in how long the Tidal Basin is painted pink, according to the NPS. For now, the forecast through the middle of next week shows slightly cooler temperatures, which could keep the blossoms on the trees. But if severe weather, such as heavy rain or strong winds, occur, the blossoms can fall early.

If you miss the Yoshino trees’ peak bloom, the Kwanzan trees (which account for 10 percent of the trees around the National Mall) are expected to start their peak around April 5, NPS said.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival kicked off last Sunday and will continue through April 17. And remember, while strolling along the Tidal Basin doing your obligatory cherry blossoms photo shoots, make sure that drones are not involved.
