The bill now goes to the mayor for her signature. Unlike permanent legislation, it isn’t subject to congressional review.

The District’s local courthouse is funded by the federal government and staffed by the federal U.S. Marshals Service, the only such arrangement in the country.

“This is the first large-scale raid that we know of that happened inside D.C. borders.”

“It is a clear need for residents in the District, and we’re addressing it,” says General Counsel Betsy Cavendish.

ICE says the agency has nothing to do with the posters, which warn people not to “harbor” or “shield from protection” any “illegal aliens.”

It would be only the second one in the state.
