Oh my. Everywhere we looked this around, we were swamped by a multitude of events having to do with pine trees and carols and lights and cookies. You know what that means: the holiday deluge is officially upon us! Enjoy the next few manic weeks.

FRIDAY:
>> The ambitious and genre-hopping Magentic Fields, spearheaded by indie-god Stephen Merrit, play the Birchmere in Alexandria. $25. 10 p.m.

>> Debbie Stoller, author of the hit Stich ‘N Bitch Nation, talks about her second volume of invaluable knitting tips and ideas. Politics and Prose, 7 p.m.

>> Big Yawn hosts a night of music at Artomatic. The line up includes (The Sounds of) Kaleidoscope, French Toast, Exit Clov, and more. Free admission and beer; 7 p.m.

SATURDAY:
>> Get into the nautical spirit and check out Alexandria’s annual Holiday Parade of Boats from 5 p.m. onwards. 50 brightly lit sailing and leisure boats cruise along the Potomac River at the historic waterfront. It all takes place at the Alexandria Marina, behind the Torpedo Factory.

>> The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington puts on a rollicking show with “A Pink Nutcracker.” Tchaikovsky’s classic gets a remake with an all-male mini-musical, complete with a gay love story. 8 p.m. at the Lincoln Theatre, $15-$45.

SUNDAY:
>> Hit up the Georgia-Petworth Holiday Fair, going on from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at the corner of Georgia Avenue and New Hampshire Avenue. There’ll be trees, wreaths, ciders, hot chocolate, vendors, and general good times.
