>> The Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team has just five losses in the last 11 months, and after falling to Maryland 99-92 in OT on Saturday night, Maryland can lay claim to three of them. Maryland’s victory marks the first time in a decade that the Terps have taken the season series from the Blue Devils.

Emotions were high in College Park throughout the game. JJ Redick got into it with Chris McCray and Daniel Ewing picked up a technical for jawing at Ekene Ibekwe. Undaunted, Maryland used their superior depth to wear down the Blue Devils, holding them scoreless from the field in OT. Duke got 67 points from their big three of Sheldon Williams, JJ Redick and Daniel Ewing, while Maryland provided a sharp contrast with six players in double figures. Duke also had an incredible five players foul out of the contest. “The thing that impressed me the most,” Maryland’s Nik Caner-Medley told the Post, “was that everyone contributed, everyone made a key play down the stretch.”

The turning point of the game was an incredible three point play by Ibekwe with 39.5 seconds remaining in regulation. Ibekwe follwed up a miss with an acrobatic putback and drew Williams fifth foul in the process. The sophomore center, just back from an injured rib, dropped 11 points in 17 minutes while John Gilchrist messed around and almost got a triple double. He finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.

The win puts Maryland above .500 in the ACC with five conference games left on their schedule. Next up: At NC State on Wednesday.

>> It wasn’t a total wash for the Devils this weekend however. The Blue Devil women beat the Lady Terps 60-49 in front of an ACC record-setting crowd of 17,243. The Duke women have won 14 of 15 against Maryland, including seven straight on the road.
