Blue and Orange Crush: Oh boy. WMATA started running eight-car trains on the Orange Line yesterday to ease crowding. But a “vital safety system” that keeps trains from colliding failed yesterday during the evening rush, the Post reports. Fortunately, due to a number of train operators who noticed that they were coming too close to trains ahead of them switched to manual control and nothing bad happened. But as WMATA tries to figure out what went wrong with the track circuitry, all Blue and Orange Line trains heading through the Rosslyn-Foggy Bottom tunnel will be operating in manual, slowing traffic.
Judge OKs Grooming Deviation Until August: The W.Times, following the story of grooming regulations in the District’s fire department, reports that a judge has given a temporary OK for Muslims firefighters to have beards before he rules on the touchy matter in August.
