Good morning, Washington. We don’t know about you, but we had an enjoyable and relaxing weekend. With low humidity and shortening days, we can definitely feel fall on the way. Today, however, summer will linger on with highs in the upper 80s. DCist reader Ran Borgersen sent us the above photo in response to our post last week with photos of Borf tags in Rome. Borgerson writes: “I saw this BORF on tag near the Seine when I was in Paris in June … That is the Eiffel tower in background.”

9/11 Commemorated: The 9/11 tragedy was remembered yesterday with a handful of walks and other events in the region. The Post, Times and Examiner report on the mostly uneventful “Freedom Walk” sponsored by the Pentagon, and the day’s other commemorative events in the region. We’ll have a post on our experience at the Freedom Walk a bit later today.

Fenty, Cropp Front-Runners for Mayor: Two members of the D.C. council – chairman Linda Cropp and Ward 4 council member Adrian Fenty – are leading the pack in the race to be the next D.C. mayor. Both spent the weekend campaigning, and we dropped by Fenty’s Saturday U Street rally and snapped some photos. The Post reports that although Fenty has built a strong campaign organization, their experts expected Cropp’s contacts from her years on the council will allow her to catch up quickly.

Water Rates Increase in D.C.: The D.C. Water and Sewer Authority announced Friday they will increase their rates by 5.5 percent, the Examiner reports. WASA which provides water to over 120,000 customers in D.C., and the increase will go towards WASA’s $300 million project to replace thousands of lead service lines in the system. In May, 10 percent of homes still exceeded the EPA’s lead limit.
