It’s been a…weird week for D.C. music lovers. Fur flew over the dos and don’ts of ticket sale announcements. Strange things were afoot with venue booking. We all got twitterpated about Unbuckled. Before we move on to telling you about some things to look forward to, may we just say how much awesome Nethers brought to the Black Cat’s back stage last night? This is a truly great band, D.C. or otherwise. They’ve got well written songs and match that to their synergistic live show. You simply can not take your eyes off of Nikki West when she sings, and the band is so in synch when they’re playing instrumental portions, it almost looks choreographed. We wish them all the luck one little blog can muster as they set off on their seven week tour, hitting a few ist cities along the way.

Whatcha doin’ tonight?
If you shrugged your shoulders and said “nothin much” to that question, then we suggest putting on your favorite ironic t-shirt and pair of chucks and heading over to DC9. In the words of DCist Jason, “a multitude of indier-than-your-momma music bloggers and record store clerks” will be invading the scene to greet music-blog-darlings Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. Also on the evening’s bill, the release of D.C. residents The Apparitions’ album As This Is Futuristic. We’ve been listening to it for a couple of weeks now, and we like what we hear. We don’t know much about Catfish Haven, These United States or The Receiver, but this is more show than $8 is likely to buy you any other night of the week.

Tour News
We realize that until you’ve actually listened to Thunder Lightening Strike, cheerleader rock might not sound like an appealing genre. Wipe away those visions of Toni Basil in a human pyramid, because The Go! Team is going to change your mind. In person! At the Black Cat, on 3/19. Dare I say it? Tickets go on sale tomorrow.

Hard Fi has spent the last year touring and collecting British music awards. Their album, Stars of CCTV, will finally be released state-side in March, just a couple weeks before they come to the Black Cat on March 30.

Other upcoming shows to look forward to include Pretty Girls Make Graves with the inexplicable and awesome Giant Drag on 5/15 at the Black Cat, and the troubador who’s managed to earn some rock cred, Josh Ritter on 4/26 at the Birchmere.
