
It’s official — winter is over. Today is the Vernal Equinox, the day that daytime and nighttime are of equal length. But Mother Nature isn’t one to make things easy on us. Our friends at Capital Weather are reporting that tomorrow might be particularly winter-like — the temperature won’t break 40, and we may even get some snow. So, enjoy today’s mild weather as long as you can.
Man Killed at Shaw Metro Station: A man was shot and killed late Friday night at the Shaw-Howard University Metro station, reports NBC 4. Ricardo Norcome, who was 35, was found by the escalators of the station and died shortly thereafter. Police are searching for two men in connection with the killing.
Patterson Launches Bid for Council Chair: Council-member Kathy Patterson formally kicked off her campaign for the D.C. Council’s top spot on Saturday at her new campaign headquarters along Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast, notes the Post. Patterson, a three-term council-member, is seeking to replace the seat being vacated by Linda Cropp, who is currently running for mayor. So far she is facing fellow council-member Vincent Gray (D-Ward 7) and Ward 5 ANC Commissioner Robert Brannum for the position.
Man Dies in Apartment Fire: A 29-year-old Salvadoran immigrant died late Saturday night after food in a toaster caused a fire in his apartment along 16th Street in Northwest, writes WJLA. The man, identified as Jose Mejia Tobillas, died from smoke inhalation.
Fight Over Pizza Leads to Killing: Yes, it seems that the news is heavy on death today. The Post is reporting that a man was fatally shot yesterday in Petworth after he chased after an armed robber who had just attempted to steal a piece of pizza he had bought. The 42-year-old man was shot in the head after he and a group of bystanders cornered the robber in an alley, but then later managed to escape.
