We’ve always been big fans of cycling. Spare the somewhat aggressive drivers, pothole-ridden city streets and rock throwing kids we occasionally have to navigate, the District remains a cycle-friendly city. Though many commuters don’t often jump on their bikes to get to and from work, tomorrow should be the one day to do so — it’s Bike to Work Day.

Sponsored locally by the Washington Area Bicycle Association, the event caps off National Bike Month, which takes place annually in May. There will be 15 pit stops around the area, where cyclists can stop, eat breakfast, listen to various speakers and mingle with their fellow two-wheeled friends. The main pit stop will be at Freedom Plaza, which stands along Pennsylvania Avenue between 13th and 14th Streets. The District Department of Transportation has endorsed the event, and according to a press release, DDOT’s Acting Director Michelle Pourciau and a group of employees will bike to work together. According to WABA, some 6,000 people have registered so far, about 1,500 more than last year.

For those not sure how exactly to get to work, WABA offers both area maps and commuter convoys. Unlike last year, which was rainy and cold, the weather promises to cooperate this time around.

Remember to ride on the roads, wear a helmet, and yield to pedestrians. You wouldn’t want to be this guy, would you?
