Good morning, Washington. What’s happening on the semi-cloudy Tuesday morning? Well, it looks like D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams has come up with a solution to the above-ground/underground parking issue for the new stadium: combining the two options! A meeting will be held this morning to discuss the issue. And it seems that area utility crews spent much of last night trying to bring power back to thousands of area residents after yesterday’s storm. As many as 20,000 may have lost power, courtesy of high winds and lightning.

Body of Missing Publisher Recovered: WTOP reports that the body of Philip Merrill, the publisher of the Washingtonian, has been found ten days after Merrill was reported missing. Found 11 miles northeast of where his sailboat, the Merrilly, was discovered empty over a week ago, the discovery brings the massive search effort for the publisher and former diplomat to an end.

Council-members Call for New Fire Chief: The Examiner and the Post tell us that D.C. Council Chairman Linda Cropp and Ward 4 Council-member Adrian Fenty are calling for Mayor Williams to replace Fire Chief Adrian Thompson as soon as possible. The two council-members, who are both running for mayor, cite “the need for accountability and the loss of public confidence in the city’s emergency medical services” as reasons for Thompson’s dismissal. This comes after committee testimony of an intense review looking at the fire department’s response to the attack of New York Times editor David Rosenbaum. Williams says that “we’ll have to wait and see” in regards to possible action against Thompson.

Corrections Director Calls for Improvements at District Jail: D.C. Department of Corrections Director Devon Brown is calling for a modernization of the District’s jail, notes WJLA. Brown stated yesterday that the folks that are in the D.C. jail ‘aren’t choirboys,’ thus requiring a number of security upgrades.

This Day in DCist: On this day last year, we saw Vincent Orange jump into the mayoral race, reported on the District’s attempts to ban hazardous rail cargo, complained about the squeaky brakes on the D2 bus, and talked about burritos.

Briefly Noted: Do the national parks need more staffing? Retired employees wonder … Network unites D.C. dads … Applications for D.C. charter schools are halted.
