Even Shadow Senator Paul Strauss had a car in the parade. And a classic one, to boot.

Can you stand all the excitement that comes along with sifting through so many election results, race by race, this morning Washington? For political junkies like us, and we’re sure, like many of you, last night was an up way past our bedtimes, whiskey-infused, edge of our seats, shouting about the relative quality of cable news commentators’ hair dye jobs kind of time. And it’s not totally over yet. But before we get to the rest of the post-election news you care about, we’d just like to give a shout out to newly re-elected Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, who proved that she’s as classy as a suit on Sunday my appearing once again on The Colbert Report last night. Norton appeared for a live interview during the show’s special dual broadcast with The Daily Show, alongside Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL, he of prostitutes and cocaine), and once again gave Colbert as good as she got. We’re still looking for a YouTube clip, so if any readers find it before we do, leave us the link in the comments.

Fenty Officially Wins: No shocker here, though we learn in the Post that the Mayor-elect plans to change the floor plan of the John A. Wilson Building “by knocking down interior walls on the third floor to create a large, open ‘bullpen,’ where he would work alongside deputies.” Sounds suspiciously like a news room. At least, so we’ve heard. DCist of course only has access to a news room of the mind.

Robert Bobb Wins School Board President: The only question now is what will Bobb’s role be if and when Mayor-elect Fenty takes personal control of the school system? Certainly the former D.C. administrator Bobb brings a lot of managerial experience to the table, but if his job is turned into merely an advisory position in the Fenty administration, his win yesterday could end up being more symbolic than anything else. None of the other local races were really competitive, but the Post has a handy breakdown of the numbers for most of them here. We’ll try to highlight some of the more interesting ANC races later today.

Va. Senate Race Too Close to Call: As of this morning Jim Webb had a small, 8,000 vote lead over Sen. George Allen, with an automatic recount likely and the balance of power in the Senate on the line. So of course it makes perfect sense that election officials in Fairfax decided to pack up and go home last night before finishing counting all the votes in their district. Because it’s not like anyone really cares about the outcome of this little local election or anything. We’ll be sure to update if a winner is declared.

Democratic Gains in Md.: Our neighbors to the north have got themselves a new governor and senator, both hailing from the blue side of the aisle. Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin pulled off a win in a tight race against Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, and Baltimore Mayor (and rock star hottie) Martin O’Malley ousted Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. More details here.

Briefly Noted: Wider lanes debut on I-66McCain resigns from Gallaudet Board of Trustees.

This Day in DCist: In 2005 it was election Tuesday and the fun was just getting started.
