City Sued In Reporter’s Death: The family of murdered New York Times journalist David Rosenbaum wants the District and Howard University Hospital to pay for his death. The suit claims that EMTs and hospital officials failed to treat Rosenbaum appropriately after his beating, thinking that he was drunk. The family says the delays contributed to his death and they want to draw attention to problems in the city’s emergency response policies. Last month, Rosenbaum’s killer was convicted of first-degree murder and faces life without parole.
Council Considers Library Plan: The City Council’s Committee on Education, Libraries and Recreation meets today to consider a proposal abandoning Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library and funding construction of a new building on the site of the old convention center. The $180 million plan has risen the hackles of those looking to renovate and preserve the MLK library, designed by famed architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Plan supporters say the building is falling apart and insufficient for the city’s future needs.
