Vincent Orange, fighting Kwame Brown for Gray’s seat, went with a smaller Cadillac SUV than his competitor. What, he couldn’t afford an orange paint job?

Happy Friday, Washington, and welcome to the newly redesigned DCist.com. Yes, our benevolent overlords in New York have been rolling out their new design city-by-city, and today it’s our turn. We’re still getting used to it ourselves, and of course we already know you’ll give us your full and honest opinions in the comments. So go crazy — we’re all halfway there already, and so is the weather forecast today. You might actually need that winter coat tonight, kids.

Voting Rights Next Year?: That’s what the Post will have us believe this morning, anyway. The story is that both Mayor-elect Adrian Fenty and Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton were on the Hill yesterday to meet with Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to hash out the current D.C. voting-rights bill. As things stand, we probably shouldn’t expect to receive a vote in the House of Representatives (along with a new Rep. for Utah) until next year, when the Democrat-controlled Congress convenes in January. On the one hand, it’s frustrating to wait any longer. But on the other, Holy Crap! The major news outlets are predicting we’re really going to get a vote in Congress as early as January! This is like, history or something, right? And here’s our favorite little nugget: “Pelosi, who was on the D.C. appropriations subcommittee at one time, agreed that Congress should interfere less in the city’s affairs, according to a news release from Norton.” Say what you will about the new Majority Leader, but this sort of talk sure sounds like music to our ears.

This Day in DCist: Last year we got excited about the official opening of the Lucky Strike bowling alley near Gallery Place, and two years ago we tracked the movements of Paris Hilton through D.C.
