Good morning, Washington. We’ve been hearing some excellent reports from the frontlines of the celebrations in Georgetown last night, after the Hoyas came back from a 10 point deficit to beat the Tar Heels 96-84. Thousands of students filled M Street in their exuberance, chanting “Hoya Saxa” at the top of their lungs. A smaller group apparently ran all the way to the White House, where the Secret Service asked them to keep it down. We hope to have a first person account of the of the entire Big East East Regional championship experience later in the day.

First Budget Hearing Today: The Examiner tells us that Mayor Fenty will present his budget to the D.C. Council for the first time today. Obviously, school funding is at the top of everyone’s list of questions about Fenty’s plans. Fenty is expected to propose a small decrease in overall funding for the District’s 142 public schools, and a larger increase for our 57 public charter schools. The estimates are based on enrollment projections which take into account trends over the last few years.

Airbus A380 Lands at Dulles: The largest commercial passenger plane ever built, an Airbus A380, landed at Dulles International Airport last night en route from Frankfurt, Germany with 500 passengers aboard. Should the so-called “super jumbo” be ordered by an airline that services the Washington, D.C. area, Dulles would be the most likely airport it would use — though the airport would need to make modifications, like wider taxiing areas.

Briefly Noted: Immigrants fall in home foreclosure wave throughout the metro area … Affluent Hillcrest neighborhood has no candidate in special Ward 7 election … Defending champ wins National Marathon.

This Day in DCist: In 2006, we were congratulating George Mason on making it to the Final Four.
