Good morning, Washington. As you might imagine, the news is still dominated by coverage of the tragedy that occurred at Virginia Tech on Monday. Many of the shooter’s writings have been found and are being pored over; with classes canceled for the week and many students heading home, it seems likely that today’s news cycle will focus on the killer and his motives. Governor Kaine has also ordered an independent investigation into the school’s response, and we’re sure there’ll be continued discussion of the speed with which police responded to the first shooting.
But we doubt you’ll have trouble finding that coverage, and there’s other news happening, too. Let’s talk about what’s going on around the District.
Hospitals In Flux: It was one week ago that we first heard that Prince George’s Hospital was on track to close after the county board rejected a last-minute deal to save the facility. For those of you keen to hear what’s happening, keep an eye on the news this afternoon: the Dimensions Healthcare board of directors will be meeting today to discuss their options, as the Post reports. The hospital is not expected to be able to file for bankruptcy; in the absence of a bailout, most expect it to close. However, efforts to work out a deal have continued since the initial crisis — the hospital may be saved yet. In cheerier healthcare-facility news, Washington Adventist Hospital has outgrown its current location and has announced that it will be moving six miles north.
Anacostia River To Get Somewhat Less Disgusting: The Anacostia is one of the ten most polluted rivers in the country — but maybe not for long. WJLA reports that some of the money attached to the Wilson Bridge project will be used to clean up 50 acres of riverbank in Northeast. The site was previously used as an unregulated landfill.

This Day In DCist: One year ago were wishing for express trains and getting ready for a church parking showdown near Logan Circle. Two years ago we made spicy cashews and watching Vincent Orange’s mayoral campaign get off to an unusually early start.
