Good morning, Washington. What a difference a day makes, right? Just yesterday we were complaining bitterly about the heat and about when administrative law Judge Roy Pearson would finally be brought before the panel that will decide his fate for a hearing. But both problems have been resolved, as if by magic, while we slumbered. The current temperature outside is 57 degrees in our nation’s capital, with an expected high of 66. And Judge Pearson is going in front of his panel for a hearing today, reports the Examiner. The article points out that the panel could have a decision by tonight — but as in all things Pearson-related, we won’t hold our breath.
Study Questions Voucher Program: The Post got hold of a GAO report that questions the District’s school voucher program, saying that it has allowed some students to take classes in unsuitable learning environments and from teachers without bachelor’s degrees. Since D.C. has been a testing ground for potential voucher programs around the country since it was put in place here four years ago, we can be sure to hear more about this report from Congress.
Council Hopes to Make Gas Stations Safer: You might remember that freshman Ward 7 D.C. Council member Yvette Alexander was robbed at a Southeast gas station back in June. Now she has introduced legislation that would mandate all gas stations install video surveillance at their pumps and post signs warning customers to remove their keys, to lock all doors and to be mindful of their surroundings. Alexander said that over the last year there have been 632 crimes committed at D.C. gas stations. The bill appears to have support within the Council.

This Day in DCist: In 2006 we took a closer look at our awesome area women’s college hoops teams, in 2005 we reviewed a new restaurant called Rice, and in 2004 we apparently didn’t realize that spotting Matthew Lesko around town was about as rare as getting rubbed up against on Metro during rush hour.
