D.C.’s NoMa neighborhood has been on the rise for a couple of years now, largely anchored by the growth of Union Market and a crop of new developments and restaurants. The area’s many industrial buildings and warehouses have made it a good fit for several of the city’s local breweries and, increasingly, distilleries. If you haven’t visited yet, it’s is a ready-made route for a leisurely weekend of sipping fresh beer and booze, thanks in part to a relatively new law allowing on-site beer sales at breweries. And it’s all close enough to the Metro to make it work.
In addition to the businesses listed here, the woman-owned Republic Restoratives distillery (1369 New York Ave NE) is working diligently to open its doors soon. If the past is any guide, there’s likely to be more where that came from.
