A New Reason for Cracked Red Line Rails?: WMATA thinks that one reason why rails are cracking on the Red Line is because of increased frequency of service along metrorail’s busiest rail line, the Post reports. Early yesterday, a WMATA contractor discovered track problems between the Friendship Heights and Bethesda stations, which shut part of the line during the first part of the morning rush hour as the tracks were repaired. It could have been much worse, WMATA says, if the track had actually split. If that had happened we could have been dealing with a situation similar to what had happened at Judiciary Square back in October.

So, we suspect that some might tell those who complain about sometimes infrequent Green Line service to shut it, as their tracks aren’t cracking because of overuse. Seriosuly though, this is not a good sign for WMATA’s metrorail woes. Add this incident to the ongoing Red Line saga.
