We hope you’re enjoying your Presidents Day weekend, especially if you have Monday off from work. Although this photo taken outside the Adams Morgan McDonalds was posted on photogene’s photoblog on Valentine’s Day, we thought it works for this weekend as well since we witnessed a fight spill from the sidewalk to inside the McDonald’s at 18th Street and Columbia Road and then back outside again. The Metropolitan Police officers breaking up the scuffle sure seemed pissed off. “Those were the same guys as before!”

There’s always exciting street theatre in Adams Morgan as last call approaches.

Marion Barry’s Son Arrested. Christopher Barry, the 24- year-old son of the former mayor and Ward 8 councilmember was arrested at a Fourth Street NW apartment for “felony assault of a police officer and resisting arrest” says that AP, via WJLA. While that AP report says that attorney A. Scott Bolden contends “it’s strange that there was no other charge or reason given for the scuffle,” the Post indicates that drugs may have been an issue.

First district Capt. Angel Medina tells the Post that police recovered two plastic baggies “each containing a small amount of what appeared to be marijuana.”

The former mayor says that his son is not a public figure, so his privacy should be respected.

WMATA Deputy Leaves Agency. We always find it interesting when an important news item plays out over a holiday weekend when people aren’t paying much attention. Over at WMATA, the transit agency’s second in command, James Gallagher, has resigned.

The Post’s second graf paints a pretty good picture as to the significance of the personnel move, which any regular transit rider could tell you.

The resignation of James T. Gallagher comes as Metro is under increasing scrutiny and is struggling to recover from management missteps. Metro statistics show that subway and bus service is deteriorating.

‘If You Bring Go-Go In, You’re Going to Have Problems’: Does that quote signify that that D.C.’s homegrown musical art form, go-go, is in its sunset days? Or will it find a more friendly venue to flourish? The Post reports that the Metropolitan Police told the D.C. Alcoholic Beverage Control Board that go-go music brings in dangerous elements into any venue that accommodates it. This has been all sparked from the fatal stabbing at Club U, which operates out of the Reeves Municipal Center at 14th and U streets NW.

During a meeting about the club’s license, an attorney representing the club says that there wouldn’t be this kind of trouble unless the security at the municipal center would be better. “The police have to step up and take some responsibility,” Wilmot is quoted by the AP.

Briefly Noted: In a linguistic exploration, the Post travels to St. George’s Island in the Chesapeake to tell the story of an endangered dialect. “But now, like many of the other dialects, St. George-ese is fading. Many of the watermen who spoke it have left, and in their place are newcomers from the Washington suburbs and elsewhere,” the Post reports. … More on the Maryland blogger gossip quarrel! Maryland Gov. Robert Ehrlich is asking two journalists to give up information about any possible connections to an anonymous poster “MD4BUSH” on a website that pushed rumors about Baltimore Mayor Martin O’Malley, the AP, via the W.Times, reports. … We thought that all slavery was slavery, but according to the Examiner, apparently there is something called “white slavery” still on the federal books under the White Slave Trafficking Act of 1910. That is a charge a Washington state man faces for driving a teenage girl from Kensington, Md., to Aberdeen, Wash., for immoral purposes.
