Maryland juniors Ekenna Ibekwe and D.J. Strawberry are reportedly entering the NBA Draft.

This isn’t cause for alarm for Terps fans, though. Neither player is expected to hire an agent, meaning they’ll retain their eligibility to return to college. The pair are merely seeing where their draft stock lies and taking the opportunity to compete for NBA scouts in pre-draft camps. Barring incredible performances in those workouts, they’ll both be back in Terps uniforms next season, as neither player is even guaranteed to be drafted at this point, much less be a top prospect.

Strawberry returned from a knee injury last year and averaged 10 points, three rebounds, and four assists while switching over to point guard. Ibekwe was Maryland’s most improved player, averaging 11 points and 6.6 rebounds, but he is still rather raw and foul-prone.

Last summer, George Washington’s Mike Hall and Pops Mensah-Bonsu and Georgetown’s Brandon Bowman all declared for the draft, before withdrawing their names and returning to help lead their teams to successful seasons and NCAA Tournament berths. It remains to be seen if the same scenario will play out for Maryland.
