I was just wondering if DCist knows about a movie that is being filmed today on 16th & Kalorama, right across from Meridian Hill park. When I walked by on my way to work there was a camera crew set up filming in front of the building right on the corner that has recently been renovated. They were filming someone dressed in what I think was a military uniform walking out of the door. Any ideas? I’m curious to know what the movie is!
I don’t know if this is the same film crew, but I have just heard from a little birdie that the crew for Paul Schrader’s new movie The Walker is in town to shoot on location. In fact, this very morning, they are shooting in the 900 block of 25th St. NW (between I and K Sts.), at the row of houses across from the River Inn. The Walker is a sort of sequel to Schrader’s 1980 film American Gigolo, imagining what the protagonist of that film, played by Richard Gere, would be like when he turned 50. The lead in this movie, the aging male prostitute in Washington, D.C., is played by Woody Harrelson. Rumor has it that Schrader wanted to cast Kevin Spacey but actually first approached Steve Martin to play the role.
Another report states that Harrelson’s character, the black sheep of a family in politics, becomes entangled in the investigation of a murder. The political intrigue that results, in typical Washington fashion, destroys his life. It turns out that the male prostitute is actually gay. During the earlier shooting on the Isle of Man (Great Britain), they filmed a scene with extras supposed to be taking place in a Washington leather bar called the 18th Amendment.
As reported in Variety, the cast also includes Lauren Bacall, Ned Beatty, Willem Dafoe, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Lily Tomlin. No guarantees, however, as to who will be at this shoot. Are there any DCist readers out there who know if this was the same movie being shot at 16th and Kalorama yesterday?
