We’re running just a tad behind this morning, D.C., not necessarily because we opted to walk the several miles in to the office this morning after reading a headline in the Washington Post that WE MIGHT NOT BE SAFE on public transportation. Damn, if only we had bothered to read the paper more carefully, we just might have been on time to work.
Fenty Pushes Council on Schools: Amid concerns about his school takeover plan coming from several D.C. Council Members and the strong objections voiced by the D.C. Board of Education, Mayor Adrian Fenty offered to make the D.C. Council a partner in his takeover of the struggling public school system yesterday. The meeting was the first of six council hearings on the takeover, which Fenty used to promise that the council would gain significant power over the school system’s budget. But some expressed worry that involving the council so heavily could lead to backroom deals about individual schools.

Allow us to be one of the first to welcome you to D.C., Ms. Lanier. We love it here, though we’re looking forward to finding out if your ideas can make this city even better.
