National Zoo Critiqued: The Post has conducted a review of documents obtained from the National Zoo on five high-profile animal deaths in recent years, and two of their experts have concluded the the zoo is at fault in some cases. The five animals investigated were an emu, lion, lemur, orangutan, and komodo dragon.

House Considering Guns for D.C.: Mayor Anthony Williams and Police Chief Charles Ramsey strongly opposed a bill considered by the U.S. House that would overturn the 1976 ban on the sale of guns in the District in a hearing yesterday, the Post reports. Mayor Williams pointed out the ban is unanimously supported by the D.C. Council, calling it “an indignity to the democratic process,” while Chief Ramsey observed “Adding more guns into the mix is not a good thing.”

Senate Approves King Memorial Funds: The Senate has approved $10 million to go towards the construction of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. memorial, to be located next to the FDR memorial at the tidal basin, the W. Times reports. Construction will begin in 2006 if fundraising goes as planned.
