Last week, there was ample proof that Washington may be the best city in the world for people who want to hear free concerts of classical music. If anything, there is even more evidence of that predominance this week. Just to list them all is going to take some space. Thank you for your patience.
FREE IS GOOD:
>> The Conservatory Project returns to the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage this week. From today until next Saturday, the best students from the leading conservatories and schools of music in the United States will give free concerts, every evening at 6 p.m. These concerts will be held in the Terrace Theater on the top floor of the Kennedy Center. You do not need a ticket or a reservation: just show up and listen. This evening, it is Northwestern University School of Music (April 30). The rest of the week includes Juilliard School of Music (May 1), Eastman School of Music (May 2), Peabody Conservatory (May 3), Berklee College of Music (bluegrass and country, May 4), Shepherd School of Music at Rice (May 5), and San Francisco Conservatory (May 6).
>> On Wednesday (May 3, 7:30 p.m.), the Ahn Trio will play a free recital as the final concert in the Shenson Chamber Music Concert Series at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (1250 New York Ave. NW). All reserved spots have been taken, but if you show up early, you may be able to receive an unused seat. These three young, beautiful women from Korea, all trained at Juilliard, also play classical music. As if you care.
