FRIDAY:
>> Capital Jazz Fest 2005 goes throughout the weekend at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The line up includes George Benson, Joe Sample, Chaka Khan (at right) Lalah Hathaway and more. Ticket information can be found here.
>> The Capital Pride Festival, which runs through June 12, focuses on the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities in D.C. The festival includes panels, film screenings, and a street parade.
>> Washington Improv Theater presents its Neutrino Video Project tonight at the District of Columbia Arts Center. The movie is improvised, shot, edited and scored while the audience watches and gives input. $10, 7:30 p.m.
SATURDAY:
>> Can you think a better way to pass a Saturday than getting drunk on wine in the Virginia countryside? We thought not. That’s why the Vintage Virginia Wine Festival sounds so appealing. Shuttles will be running from the Vienna Metro Station to the location of the festival in Millwood, and tickets at the gate will run you $22 (or order online here).
>> If only all the world’s problems could be solved by a flip cup competitions. We’d be so happy. For now, though, we’ll just head to Dr. Dremo’s for Flippin’ For a Cure Flip Cup Party, which benefits the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. See registration info and more here; the fun gets started at 3 p.m.
SUNDAY:
>> The 25th Washington Folk Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday at Glen Echo Park. Featuring seven stages of storytelling, crafts, and music, the festival also includes dance instruction in Glen Echo’s lovely ballroom and plenty o’ food. And admission is free! 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. both days.
>> Sunday closes out the Dupont Kalorama Museum Walk Weekend. Eight area museums (Mary McLeod Bethune Council House, National Historic Site; Meridian International Center; the Phillips Collection; Anderson House; The Textile Museum and Woodrow Wilson House) are open free of charge. Free shuttle buses will be provided as well. Sunday, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
